Single Tooth Implant Sacramento, CA
Missing just one tooth might not seem like a big deal, but that gap can cause a wide array of problems, from spacing and alignment to overall oral health. While replacing a single tooth can be one of the most complex procedures we offer, here at Rho Family Dentistry we believe in the incredible importance of caring for your smile long-term, ensuring that our solutions will last a lifetime. Our oral experts are highly trained and equipped to give you the smile you deserve, so find out why a single tooth implant is the best option for restoring all of your teeth.
What Is a Single Tooth Implant?
A single tooth implant is the ideal solution for replacing just one tooth. The implant is similar to a small screw placed in the actual bone of the jaw, allowing it to fuse to the bone over one to two months. When fully fused, we can attach the prosthetic, called a crown. Once in place, it is permanent and has minimal impact on the gums and neighboring teeth. Some implants are designed for removable crowns, while others are affixed permanently.
Why Get a Single Tooth Implant?
Most approaches favor what is called a bridge, a type of prosthetic that requires the surrounding teeth to be ground down to anchor it. Implants allow your natural teeth to be preserved and help prevent your gums from receding from the bridge over time. Decay can also creep into the teeth supporting the bridge, and bridges often do not match the surrounding teeth as well as an implant. And because an implant is actually anchored to your jaw, it works and feels much more like a natural tooth. Our goal for every implant we perform is for you to forget you even have it. You should be able to talk, chew, and of course smile fearlessly!
What Is the Procedure Like?
While it can be complex on our end, it’s pretty easy on yours! Getting an implant will usually require more than one trip to our office, though typically we can place a temporary crown for you within your first visit. First, we perform a thorough assessment of the site of the implant. Sometimes a bone graft might be necessary to support the implant, but usually we can go ahead and place the implant. While your high-quality crown is being manufactured to blend seamlessly with the rest of your teeth, we offer a temporary crown, so that you can have a full smile as soon as you walk out of our office. Some treatments place the crown and the implant at the same time. Depending on the tooth replaced, it can take anywhere from 10 to 16 weeks to heal.
